I guess they sell the disabled seating once it gets close to the show date, so we had this perfectly able couple come up to us an hour into REMs set to claim their seats. We moved 2 seats over to accomodate them. But who gets to a show that has 2 openers an hour into the headliner's set?
i didn't sneak into the show. i just moved to a seat, smuggled down by an un-named sonicliving user (thanks, daniel!) but ONLY once R.E.M was already on their 3rd song and it was clear that those people weren't showing up. why should the good seats go unused while i slide down the hill? first come/ first serve just makes more sense. democracy!
I sit in my assigned seats because I don't want to have to get up and move 18543675239 times during the show because the real ticket holder showed up. I want to watch the damn show.
Yeah. Older people are lame until you're older. And then young people are a nuisance. And I suppose if you've paid $70 to sit in a seat, you want to be able to see. P.S. I had lawn seats. I sneaked in! Haahaha.
So it's somewhat fair to say if the artist has a say, "older" following, then the show will likely be assigned seats. Additionally, if you stand at such a show, you will be inappropriately poked.
i have a bruise on my right shoulder blade from that poking. i had to say, politely, "you know, a nice TAP would have been fine." he's lucky he didn't get a punch.
Paul Simon was assigned seating but most shows are not. It's them trying to guess what the audience will be like. I did see people being told to sit by other audience members and I just had to chuckle. Heaven forbid you stood up and rocked out...at a rock concert.
OK, well, I rescind part of my complaints then. I know that a few shows this summer are assigned, but it looks like Death Cab is GA. I'm having trouble adjusting I guess....I've never been to the Greek in my life with assigned seating. So maybe they're just going to do it more often? I don't know. I guess we'll see. I will cave just one more time for Dolly Parton, and then that's it for me.
Wasn't assigned seating only for the REM shows? This isn't the case for all shows there, is it? And JEEZ Amy, I can't believe you STOOD at ROCK SHOW. Next thing you're going to tell me is that you cheered and "WOO!"'d at the end of every song and then sang along to "Losing my Religion". :-p
Yeah...I forgot to add my positive notes. R.E.M. were so awesome! Man, that new album is good. Modest Mouse (Johnny Marr!) ruled it but it's a bummer that you can no longer go to the front for opening bands you love. The Nash and MM were playing for the 10 old people in front of them it seemed. OH, I forgot to mention that I got poked REALLY hard in the shoulder by some old dude who didn't want me to stand up.....at a SHOW. I hate the Greek now.
The National ruled. The Mouse was awesome. And well, REM brought all the relevancy that they had left over from the 90's. And yes, the assigned seating sucked, especially given that it was mostly old people at the show and they *absolutely* needed to sit in their assigned seats... That and they seemed totally bored with the Mouse and the National.
The National needs to come back and play at Bimbo's or something.
goddamn the stupid assigned seating at the greek. i met a 50 year-old woman who said "this is my first time being here with assigned seating and i will NEVER come back." i'm with you, lady. this is a real fuckin bummer.
Why isn't this show GA !!!!!!!!!!!
It was the last time I saw REM at the Greek, this just encourages people to sit during the concert and ruins the whole show's vibe.
I wouldn't be going if it wasn't for Modest Mouse...nice trick they pulled to ensure people fork over the money.

Seating? Does that mean they're putting plastic lawn chairs out on the floor?
I can't hang with the lawn though. Maybe it's just me, but it's too steep! I remember one show I went to where I kept sliding into some guy in front of me. His girlfriend did not appreciate that.
Great lineup! Where can I find out more about the venue? My sweetie says the Greek Theatre that he knows on campus is super small, a dugout open air kind of thing. Is it the same space he is thinking of? Last time I saw REM was around the turn of the century at a big arena. If it is this tiny space he is thinking of, the show will surely sell out, no?
I have already seen REM at the Greek and it sounded great...imo a proper soundboard technician can dial in the Greek with little problem. It is therefore the best Bay Area Venue, which I have been going to since '95.
It's always been my experience that it just isn't loud enough. Sometimes you can be in the "bowl" and still talk to the person next to you. Berkeley has really strict regulations on the sound levels cause of the rich people behind it. From the Greek's own website..."Sound levels are closely monitored in order to comply with local regulations limiting levels to 94.8db, "A" weighted, 15 minute average, at the mix position."

Kevin & Tina - IMHO the acoustics at the Greek suck if you're down on the floor, and a great if you're away from the stage. WAAY Bassy down at the bottom of the "bowl"...
Tina P, Gotta go with Kevin C on this one. Being an outdoor venue, there aren't really any acoustics - there's no walls or a ceiling for the sound to bounce off of. The Greek sounds great.
I love REM and have seen them twice. Once in Atlanta at the end of the Green tour and the next time I saw them was in the early 90's in Denver. It should be a good triple bill concert!
I wonder if he'd headline? I saw him a few years back at all tomorrows parties and he kinda went second fiddle iirc to the boredoms. He also tries to keep such a low profile, esp. when it comes to performing.
Fortunately, every month there are a lot of events where one can enjoy his time and entertain his self. For example, there are great events that worth attendance like Coachella which provides different kinds of entertainment. And really this festival is ultimately attended. But every time in such hot events the problem of tickets is disturbing. Lately, I discovered an interesting website where to compare ticket prices for free and I find that it’s a great idea because this way I can find the cheapest offer. Here it is: http://www.ticketwood.com/concerts/Coachella-Music-Festival-2008-1-Day-Pass-Tickets/index.php Coachella Tickets
Assigned seating and the Greek just don't work together.
The National needs to come back and play at Bimbo's or something.
